The fetal scans have an essential and comprehensive roll in the ante-natal care, which presently goes much further than diagnosing fetal abnormalities. The recent and fast advances of science joined to the perspective of the fetus as a patient has opened new fields of specialization, such as Fetal Medicine.

The Fetal Medicine Unit of the Obstetric Department in São Teotónio Hospital started it’s activities on 1st of October 2008 with a very motivated team and with a privileged link to the Family health Units. Our objectives are to improve ante-natal care for the pregnant women and their babies, guaranteeing first and second trimester scan evaluations.
